Foods That Detoxify
The largest amount of medicine that we take into our bodies is food. Yet most people don’t think about food as medicine.
And this is a shame.
Food can and should easily be your body’s number one medicine and tonic. Even the father of medicine knew the importance of food for its therapeutic effects. He advised us to let food be our medicine and medicine be our food.
There are so many foods that detoxify the body that a whole treatise could be written on this very subject. And here we are talking about foods that are tasty and enjoyable to cook with and eat.
Food is a pleasure and is meant to be enjoyed.
In this article, we’ll talk about the different types of foods that detoxify and how you might want to add them to your daily regimen.

As many of you know, there are a ton of herbs and medicinal plants that have specific uses as detoxifiers but we will limit this article to the tasty foods.
The ones that make you drool.
Who would've thought that enjoying food could also be healing and detoxifying at the same time?

Many of the foods that we take for granted are some of the best foods that detoxify.
We almost take this potent weapon for granted.
But if you think about food and its role in the body for just a moment you will appreciate the importance that the role of food plays.
Food is second only to liquids in the amount of substance that enters the body.
And the cliché that you are what you eat is based on fact.

Let’s start with something as simple as parsley.
Everybody should have a sprig or two of parsley growing on their kitchen window sill.
Parsley is jam packed full of vitamin c and chlorophyll. Both of these substances are powerful antioxidants. And chlorophyll is a great internal cleanser.
However, it is best to use parsley raw as high heat cooking will denature much of the vitamin c content.
A great way to enjoy parsley is in salads.
In the Mediterranean, you will find a salad called Tabour which is a wonderfully refreshing salad made predominantly with parsley. It is simple and easy to make and recommended for a nice light summer lunch.
Another one of my personal favorite foods that detoxify is Tahini.
Tahini is another one of those foods that can easily be made at home.
Tahini is basically ground sesame seeds and you can make a terrific sauce out of tahini with the use of some lemon, garlic and olive oil.
This paste is known as hummus.
It is delicious as used in falafels, or even diluted tahini is a great sauce to be placed on salads and sandwiches.
Sesame seeds are well known to help fight off parasites and their benefits can be found in the earliest Vedic Scriptures of ancient India.
Sesame seeds are so easy to use as a food that detoxifies it would be a shame if you didn’t start using them in some form or another. Toasted sesame seeds are wonderful in salads and stir-fries.
And the oil of sesame seeds is very tolerant to high heat and can be used to aid the gums and teeth as it allegedly helps remove pathogens and plaque that attack the gums.
These two foods that detoxify the body should be incorporated in your weekly diet at least and would be especially beneficial if used 2 or 3 times per week. They are easily adaptable to any diet and can add a great bit of pizzaz to your recipes. Also, consider adding pineapple as your dessert of choice as its natural bromelain enzyme offers a terrific boost to colon cleansing and health.
